Crossing Borders

Dear fellow sojourners, Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America’s Annual Conference in Harrisonburg, Virginia. It was a beautiful week of rest, relaxation, rejuvenation and learning. I am thankful our congregation provides such continuing education opportunities for me. The theme of the conference was: No Longer Strangers: Crossing Borders for Peacemaking. The Biblical Inspiration for this theme is found in Ephesians 2:19-20, "So...

The Meaning of July 4th

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope you have a meaningful 4th of July celebration tomorrow.  This past week while driving I heard an essay by Dr. James Peterson on Frederick Douglass’ classic 1852 speech “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”  Dr. Peterson’s essay and Douglass’ speech have caused me to ponder the meaning of my freedom.  In listening to Dr. James Earl Jones read this speech, this line stood out to, “The blessings...
